# Overview

Lalabase is a platform for project and knowledge work that you can run entirely on your
own infrastructure. This documentation is for teams who want to **self-host** Lalabase —
with full control over their data and operations.

## What self-hosting means

Self-hosting means running every component of Lalabase on servers you own. A typical
installation consists of these services:

- The **Rails application** (web + API)
- A **PostgreSQL database** with the `vector` extension for AI features
- **Solid Queue** for background jobs
- **Redis** as a cache

## How this documentation is organized

The docs are split into four areas:

1. **Getting started** — overview and system requirements
2. **Installation** — Docker Compose and server setup
3. **Configuration** — environment variables, email, AI keys
4. **Operations** — backups, updates, and monitoring
