# Versioning notes & documents

Notes and files both keep a history — but in different ways.

## Notes: automatic history

Every content change to a note creates a new version automatically; a title-only change does not.

1. Open the note and click **History**.
2. The **Version history** lists every state, newest first.
3. Clicking a version shows under **Changes in this version** what changed compared to the previous one.

The history is a read-only reference: you can review earlier states, but you do not roll them back. Unlike files, notes have no **set as current**; to bring an earlier state back, take it from the history into the note.

## Files: create versions yourself

For files you control the versions by hand. Every version carries a number, **v1**, **v2**, **v3**, in the order it was uploaded. The newest is on top, the current one carries the chip **current**. Each version shows date, person and size; the date appears in the format you chose in your settings.

Use **Create new version** to upload a new file. The form says at the top which number it becomes ("New version becomes v3"). The file comes first: dragged into the dashed zone or chosen there. The title is prefilled from the file name and can be changed, **What has changed?** is optional. The previous version is kept.

An older version becomes the current one again with **set as current**. The document's title is the title of its current version; when the titles differ, Lalabase asks first, because the document will be called differently afterwards.

The **download** sign stands on every version. Behind **···** sit the **text version**, if Lalabase could read one from the file, and **Delete version**. If a version reads **Index failed**, the AI could not read the file for search.

On the only remaining version the item reads Delete version and document …, and the confirmation says so: with it the whole document is deleted. This action cannot be undone.
